Shopping at a Spanish Market: Lesson Guide

Shopping at a Spanish *mercado* is an experience for the senses. In this lesson, practice speaking to a Spanish vendor, buying fresh fruit, and dealing with money and change.

Language & Cultural Tips

In Spain, to ask how much multiple items cost, you ask "¿Cuánto cuestan?". When buying something, it's very natural to use the reflexive verb *llevarse* (to take with oneself): "Me llevo un kilo" (I'll take a kilo). Also, the phrase "Here you go" when handing over items or money is usually translated as "Aquí tiene" (literally: Here you have).
