Going to the Pharmacy in Italy: Lesson Guide

If you need over-the-counter medicine in Italy, you have to go to a *farmacia* (look for the illuminated green cross sign). This roleplay teaches you how to describe your symptoms, ask about medication dosage, and make a purchase.

Language & Cultural Tips

To say you have a headache in Italian, use "Ho mal di testa" (I have an ache of the head). Pharmacists will often suggest "le compresse" (tablets) or "le pillole" for minor pain. When you want to ask how often to take a pill, you ask: "Quante volte...?" (How many times...?). The phrase for "after meals" is "dopo i pasti".
